1. How was life different one year ago?
Life was dramatically different for me one year ago. I was working a 9 to 5 job, teaching private and group yoga classes, teaching essential oils classes to large groups, and having one on one meetings, traveling all over Miami and Broward County from one place to another, all while building a wellness business from my home. I was leading a fast-paced, rat-racy life and trying to make it all balance and keep my sanity. Fast forward to today, life is totally different. I have become busier, but now I do everything from my home. I have been able to keep working my 9 to 5 job, teach yoga and essential oils classes, and run my wellness business from the comfort of my home. I have been able to slow down the pace of my life, take a step back, and truly connect with what is really important to me right now. I also find time for things like catching up on my reading, spending quality time with family, and connecting more authentically with my friends. It has truly been a surreal experience to say the least.
2. How are you building community right now: Why is it important?
I have connected with a beautiful community of friends all over the world through The Warrior Flow Foundation, which I came to know through a “Trauma-Informed Yoga and Mindfulness” workshop that Warrior Flow founders were offering. After the workshop, we stayed in touch, and soon after COVID-19 and the stay at home order was in place, they reached out to me to teach live yoga on their Instagram page to benefit the Foundation. By saying “yes” to this amazing and special opportunity, I was now able to serve a whole new community that I otherwise would not have been able to serve. It is so important, especially now that we are all quarantined for who knows how long, that I am able to connect and serve so many, to give them hope, to give them a sense of community through my teachings, and to help them release the traumas and fears that are definitely affecting all of us on this planet.
3. If money and time were no object, what would you be doing right now?
I would definitely be teaching yoga, breathing, and meditation. I would be teaching families about the benefits of essential oils and how to ditch and switch toxic products out of their homes. I would love to facilitate retreats for yoga, health, and wellness all over the world.
4. Tell me about the best teacher you’ve ever had? What did you learn?
I have had many teachers, and I learned from them what I needed to learn to evolve and transcend in this life and I know there will be many, many more. But if I had to choose one teacher that has impacted me the most and continues to impact me daily, it would be my daughter. She has taught me unconditional love like no other. She has taught me patience and acceptance, which has helped me so much in my growth as a human being, woman, and mother.
5. When and how have you volunteered? How did it make you feel?
I have volunteered for our youth programs at my church, and it was amazing to be able to be of service to these children and impact their lives in a positive way. I also volunteered to teach yoga classes in the beginning of my yoga career, and it was such a humbling learning experience. And then there was The Warrior Flow Foundation experience. I volunteered with my dear friend Adrian Molina in one of his trauma-informed sound-healing classes at Mount Sinai Hospital for the interns, doctors, and nurses, and I could feel the stress and anxiety leaving their bodies, probably for the first time in weeks. It was so touching, and my heart was full that day. Volunteering to teach yoga live for communities all over the world for the Foundation took it to another level. To know that I not only served and impacted my community but also communities all over the world was truly a humbling experience.
6. What would you like to tell your students?
I would tell them to say “yes” to as many opportunities as they feel good about because you never know how it can change your life and the lives of others in so many wonderful and beautiful ways. It can also open up doorways and pathways for your growth as a human being on this planet and for your soul on your spiritual journey.
7. How can we end racism?
That is a big question, with only one big answer: love.
8. What are your core values?
Living authentically, with compassion, empathy, kindness, and love in your heart.
9. How do you want your students to feel when they are done with class?
I hope they feel loved, cared for, and special.
10. How does teaching make you feel?
Blessed to be able to give my students my love and my caring—that fills my heart.
