1- In less than a minute, tell us who you are and why we keep hearing good things about you?
My name is Jackie Angulo. I am a speech and language pathologist (SLP) and a yoga instructor for children and adults. As an SLP, I work with children with developmental disabilities that impact their ability to communicate. I am very passionate about my career and have been working in the field for over 10 years. I love to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into my therapy sessions. Yoga has so many benefits for children and can help them develop social skills, speech-language skills, cognitive skills, emotional regulation, motor skills, etc., the list can go on and on! That is why I created Yogiplay, which is a yoga program that focuses on improving a child's holistic development. I truly believe in the power of yoga, not only in my own life but for the lives of the children and families that I work with. I also offer yoga classes to the parents that I serve because I believe the dynamic in the household is crucial to a child's development, and I believe yoga helps parents stay present, and better handle their daily stresses. Besides my passion for children and yoga, I am a free spirit and a lover of nature, dancing, food, music, and traveling!
2- What were the pivotal roadblocks and challenges you encountered along the way that helped you define your path?
I think what is going on right now in the world with the corona virus pandemic has been a pivotal challenge in my life, as I’m sure it has been for many in the world. It truly has been a roller coaster of emotions, with many ups and downs and twists and turns. I’ve had to learn to do things differently, and live my life differently, and it hasn’t been a walk in the park. But I will say it has provided me the space to self-reflect and to cultivate a new vision for my life. It has allowed me to dig a little deeper into my internal landscape, and has helped me discover what I can do to restructure it to be live a more positive, abundant, and loving life. I know this is the path that I must take in order to give and share my gifts with the world.
3- Why did you choose this field? Who were your role models? And what pushed you to learn and become who you are?
I’ve always loved working with children. They bring me a lot of joy and energy and I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something with children. When yoga came into my life, I was immediately drawn to it. I knew that one day I would do my yoga teacher training, primarily for personal self growth and with no intention to teach. The more I practiced yoga, and the more I learned about childhood development and disabilities, I started to realize that yoga could benefit children, even those with disabilities. That's when I started my journey into Yogiplay. I then completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training in November of 2019 and that's what really opened doors for me, both spiritually and mentally. It was a transformative experience that really made me into the person I am today. I'm grateful to say I have many role-models in my life. My mother, yoga teachers, and co-workers that I've had the pleasure to learn from every day.
4- What is your legacy? Do you care about leaving a legacy?
I want to leave a legacy. I definitely want to leave one for my family but I also want to leave one to the world. I’m not sure yet what it will be, but I hope that it is something that will bring joy to others and improve their quality of life.
5- What can we all do right now to make this world a better place?
I think the first step is to be present. Once we are more present, we are able to connect to our highest self and to the abundance of the universe. We are able to vibrate on a higher frequency. Just by doing that, we are starting to shift the energy in the world.
6- In less than a minute, without sounding like a used car salesperson, tell us where to find you and what is the next big thing that everyone should be anticipating from you?
